Summary:	This paper examines several aspects of the early history of the Ua Gallchobair family in Tír Conaill up to the end of the thirteenth century. Topics discussed include suggested sources for some of the unique Donegal material preserved in the Annals of the Four Masters, a brief study of the cult of Adomnnán with a possible identification of his birthplace, and a fresh interpretation of the political significance of Fled Dúin na nGéd, Cath Muige Rath, and three poems ascribed to Máel Cobo Cléirech.
