Description
Summary:Graphene has been gained increasing attention of the scientific community due to its many beneficial properties. One of the most promising applications is as electrode material for the production of energy in Fuel Cells and Lithium-ion batteries. The electrochemical synthesis of graphene oxide provides a facile, fast, scalable, economic and environmental friendly pathway to the production of graphene flakes. In this work, we analyze the properties of electrochemical exfoliated graphite using different sulfonated ionic liquids as reactant media. Graphene oxides were synthetized via electrochemical methods by intercalation and the oxidation of a graphite bar. Properties of the generated graphene oxides were evaluated via sophisticated analytical methods such as XRD and Raman Spectroscopy. Results show that synthesis by electrochemical exfoliation in sulfonated ionic liquids allows a better control of the production of impurities compared to the traditional synthesis like the Hummers method.
