Summary: | Developing of a closed-loop system for blood glucose control is one of the main research lines in the diabetes mellitus treatment. The work proposes the control algorithm for blood glucose maintenance in the physiological range. The controller includes proportional regulation for automatic adjustment of the basal insulin infusion rate and optimal bolus calculation. The algorithm takes into account continuous blood glucose measuring, meal data and some personal patient data such as basic basal insulin infusion rate and insulin sensitivity. In silico tests of the proposed controller were carried out with the UVA/Padova type 1 diabetes mellitus simulator which allows glucose metabolic simulation as well as glucose meter and insulin pump modeling. Simulations of 24-hour closed-loop regulation with 4 meals for 9 adults and 10 adolescents shows promising results for the algorithm potential appliance in a closed-loop blood glucose control system |
