Summary: | The dissipating energy flow method has been proposed as an analysis method for computing the direction and relative magnitude of oscillation energy on a branch element of an electric power grid. This paper presents a strategy for utilizing the energy flows computed at a moment in time on many branches to offer better informational value to potential users. The branches are grouped via closed contours such that actionable information related to the source of a forced oscillation is conveyed to the potential user. Contours are developed to indicate whether, for example, forced oscillations are emanating from a single generator, from a power plant, from a region, or from an operating entity. The grouping strategy offers an easy to understand framework for presenting source location information to end users. |
