Description
Summary:The electric motor is the key element of the propulsion system of an Electric Vehicle (EV). In the search of the best solution for a given application, this paper presents a comparative study carried out to provide a solution for the electric drive of a centralized electric propulsion system dedicated to a mobile charging station. Three different types of electric machine, an induction machine, a permanent magnet synchronous machine and a variable reluctance synchronous machine are studied in a comparative manner, based on the requirements established through a comprehensive analysis of the vehicle-level requirements. After the machines were analytically designed and numerically analyzed, conclusions regarding their performances are expressed in the final part of the paper.
