Summary: | Renewable α,ω-dienes have been prepared from syringaresinol, a naturally occurring bisphenol deriving from sinapyl alcohol, and further studied as monomers in ADMET polymerizations. Polymerization was optimized according to catalyst loading and reaction conditions (in mass
vs.
in solvent), and led to polymers with molecular weight up to 14.1 kDa. Thermal analyses of these new polymers showed excellent thermal stabilities (257–360 °C) and tunable
T
g
(18–70 °C) depending on the structure of the starting α,ω-diene monomer. |
