Structure and tribological properties of electrodeposited Fe-Ni coating treated with nitrogen ions

Description
Summary:The structural-phase state, microhardness, and wear resistance of the Fe 64 Ni 36 electrically deposited coating treated with nitrogen ions is investigated. It is established that ion-beam treatment leads to the formation of a solid solution of nitrogen in the matrix γ-phase (γ N ), as well as the (Fe, Ni) 4 N nitride-γ′-phase in surface layers of the Fe 64 Ni 36 coating. The microhardness of the surface layer of the Fe 64 Ni 36 coating modified by nitrogen ions increases to H 0.24 = 7600 MPa. It is shown that the ion-beam treatment of the Fe-Ni coating leads to a substantial decrease in its wear intensity.
