Summary: | The results of electrochemical measurements performed on austenitic stainless steel weldments exposed to synthetic seawater and polluted seawater are presented. The test zones were classified as stainless steel base metal (UNS S30403 annealed), welding zone and heat affected zone (HAZ), in order to analyze the effect of different microstructures on the corrosion behavior. The HAZ showed high corrosion susceptibility in the synthetic seawater test. Welded specimens immersed in polluted seawater display a large biofouling deposit and localized corrosion induced by organisms adhered to the surface. |
