Summary: | Prevention of cancer may soon be a possibility for people who, because of genetic disposition or environmental exposure to carcinogens, have a high risk for developing disease. One class of compounds being tested for their effectiveness in combatting cancer is the retinoids, which consists of the natural vitamin A compounds (retinol, retinal, and all-trans-retenoic acid) and their derivatives. This review discusses the cancer preventive activity of retinoids in various tissues and organs. |
