Description
Summary:In this work, composites of TiC and 7075 aluminum alloy are prepared by friction stir processing coupled with heat treatment to improve the material properties and tested for creep performance. Experimental results showed that the composites displayed a low creep rate and a high creep life after the coupling treatment. The TiC particles exhibited good interfacial bonding coherence in the matrix, and the creep mechanism is changed from the viscous sliding of dislocations to the grain boundary sliding creep control mechanism. •TiC-FSP-T6 was one order of magnitude lower than TiC-FSP in terms of steady-state creep rate, and the creep life was increased by about two times.•The creep mechanism of TiC-FSP changed from dislocation sticking-sliding to grain boundary sliding after T6.•After T6 the anomalous growth of fine isometric crystals and the larger number and more uniformly distributed precipitated phases exhibited.
