High-frequency stimulation of the hippocampus protects against seizure activity and hippocampal neuronal apoptosis induced by kainic acid administration in macaques

Highlights • HFS of the macaque hippocampus markedly reduced KA-induced seizure activity. • HFS afforded marked protection against neuronal cell death following KA treatment. • HFS attenuated KA-induced changes in apoptosis-related proteins.
