Summary: | This article looks at the production of the key early film Rough Sea at Dover so that its precise authorship and origin can be determined. Using a close examination of the biographies of the two disputed authors, plus concepts drawn from the Social Construction of Technology, the author is deemed to be the photographer Birt Acres, and his brief association with pioneer Robert W. Paul is seen to be only tangentially influential on Acres's film-making processes in Spring 1895, settling an historical case which has for too long been ambiguous. |
