| Summary: | This study has been undertaken towards the award of a higher research degree by the University of Technology at Loughborough. It is amongst the first of what will be a continuing number under a scheme devised by The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants—incorporated by Royal Charter—and piloted with the University by arrangement with Professor John Sizer, Senior Pro-Vice Chancellor. The objects of the scheme are to involve in research a number of experienced persons by allowing on-the-job participation so that the benefit of expertise sometimes acquired over a lifetime can be encapsulated instead of being lost in the event of death or retirement. Other aims are to publish results which can serve as primers to others in the adaptation of basic management accounting techniques to specialist areas, and to further the image of management accountants—especially of those working with inter-disciplinary teams.
