Description
Summary:Mixed Media on City traces how a multitude of local actors and urban decision-makers formulate peculiar configurations and interventions in the urban spaces of Istanbul. We document how the city is constantly reshaped by, on the one hand, top-down or exogenous strategies of metropolitan authorities and, on the other hand, bottom-up or endogenous tactics, objects, spaces, and systems developed by inhabitants. Putting aside our disciplinary and semiotic biases, we examine and categorise various urban practices and observe how the mixed techniques of everyday actions, design endogeneity, and vernacular knowledge interrelate in Istanbul. Mixed Media on City shows how the apprehension of the city through the lens of Istanbulites is more flexible than design practitioners and not rigidly constrained by definite techniques, rules, and biases.
