Summary: | The effect of titanium nitride nanoparticles (TiN NPs) added to the electrolyte on the mechanical and corrosion properties of oxide layers formed by plasma-electrolytic oxidation (PEO) in the "soft sparking" mode on cast 356.0 Al-Si alloy was investigated. It was found that the addition of TiN NPs in small concentrations (0.5 and 1.0 g/l) results in approximately 1.5 times higher hardness and corrosion current densities and wear of PEO-formed oxide layers lowered by about 3 and 2 times, respectively. A further increase of the concentration of TiN NPs (up to 3 g/l) has no effect on the properties of the obtained PEO coatings. |
