Summary:Every academic wants to believe that their work matters, that it makes the world better in some way. But how do we judge whether our work matters? Étienne Charbonneau, Luc Bernier, and Nicholas Bautista-Beauchesne (CBB) suggest one way of answering this question. Although they do not express it exactly in this way, they describe a club, which we can call Mainstream Public Administration (henceforth, the MPA club). CBB believe that Canadian scholars of public administration, and also Canadian Public Administration, ought to be well-regarded members of the MPA club. At the moment, it appears that they are not. The question that I would like to pose is whether the price of membership in this club is worth paying.
