Description
Summary:This article presents swarm data in CO _{2} under crossed uniform time-invariant fields. CO _{2} is used as an alternative gas in switching applications, and however, its dielectric properties in crossed fields are limited in the literature. The dielectric response under crossed fields is investigated together with excitation rates and ionization and attachment frequencies. Critical breakdown fields evaluated indicate that it is possible to increase the dielectric strength of CO _{2} with the application of crossed magnetic field in the parameter range of the present investigation. Furthermore, the electron energy distribution functions in crossed fields are analyzed, and employing the evaluated electron mean energies and magnetic deflection angles, the validity of the equivalent reduced electric field concept is investigated.
